The Open Gate

Jesus calls himself the gate, a way in and out where the sheep find pasture.

A gate can keep people out or let them in. Jesus describes a gate that lets the flock come and go and find what they need.

Three things to take home

  1. Safety and freedom are not opposites in this passage.
  2. The thief shows up for what he can take. The shepherd shows up to give.
  3. Life “to the full” is not only about the future. It starts in ordinary days.

  • Where do you feel shut out, and where do you feel at home?
  • What would it look like for our building to be a gate that is easy to find?
