Asking for what we need today, and no more.

In the middle of the Lord’s Prayer is a short request about bread. It is a prayer for today, not for the next ten years.

Three things to take home

  1. Asking for daily bread admits that we depend on God and on each other.
  2. It is also a prayer for people who do not have enough. We do not get to pray it for ourselves only.
  3. Trusting for today frees us from carrying tomorrow all at once.

Questions for a small group

  • What is one thing you are carrying that belongs to tomorrow?
  • How can our food pantry shelves answer this prayer for someone this week?
