Our Father
The first word of the prayer is "our".
The prayer does not begin with “my.” Before we ask for anything, we are placed in a family.
Three things to take home
- Prayer is not a private performance.
- Calling God “Father” can be tender for some of us and hard for others, and both are welcome here.
- Praying in the plural pulls us toward each other.
